The backstory

Jared Roth’s grandfather and great uncle joined the Ethan Allen business in 1965 as owners of a new Syracuse location. Years later they moved their primary location to Victor, NY, which is just outside Rochester.

In 2011, Jared became a 3rd generation authorized Ethan Allen retailer with his location in Victor, NY. Ever since then, he’s had the dream of expanding to other locations and re-entering the Syracuse market but didn’t have the resources until recently.

Challenges & objectives

While the COVID-19 pandemic created many challenges, 2021 was a good year for the furniture industry as many people were at home and naturally focused on home improvement. This made 2021 a good time for Ethan Allen in Victor to expand their business back into Syracuse. The Victor location was already busy, so it was challenging to build out a new facility & recruit & train new staff in this new location.

To expand the business, new processes and technologies were also needed to allow the entire team (now geographically dispersed) to work together.

How we helped

Ethan Allen in Victor began working with LogicalNet during the summer of 2021. LogicalNet took on their IT infrastructure, rolling out Microsoft 365 for their employees to keep them better connected across locations, updating Windows, and managing their firewalls and their network. They now have three locations including their Victor showroom, their distribution center, and their new studio in Syracuse.

As a small business owner, Jared needs to focus on growing his business, rather than the details of workstation configuration, the complexity of how to manage multiple physical locations within a single network and how to protect his business from cyber-attacks. With LogicalNet, Jared has access to IT expertise and management that far exceeds the capabilities of hiring an internal IT staff – and at a fraction of the cost.

For example, LogicalNet handles all new workstation setup, applying a standard configuration each time. This saves Jared the time and energy of having to set up the devices himself, allowing him to spend more time building his business, coaching employees, and even spending more time with his family.

LogicalNet helps Jared adhere to the changing corporate Ethan Allen cybersecurity requirements and has integrated Jared’s home office with all three of his facilities using a Virtual Private Network (VPN). This gives Jared access to key applications even though his two showrooms are 1.5 hours apart and whether he is working in the office or remotely.

Results

Jared now has confidence when embarking on new projects that he has the IT resources and expertise needed to accomplish them. LogicalNet takes away the stress of having to navigate IT issues and cybersecurity alone so that Jared can spend more of his time building his business.

Looking forward

LogicalNet continues to work with Jared to provide additional layers of cybersecurity. We also help him with his website to promote clearance items. In the next year he’s planning to move his Victor NY facility and will closely coordinate that with LogicalNet. With his LogicalNet partnership, expansion opportunities look very bright.
